Study Participants Needed for Low Back Pain Research
We are seeking participants for a research study titled “Ultrasound Assessment of the Thoracolumbar Fascia in Individuals with and without Low Back Pain, and Treatment Response with OMT or Hydrodissection.” This study aims to improve the understanding of the thoracolumbar fascia’s role in low back pain. Participants will undergo a physical exam and ultrasound imaging, with some receiving Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy or hydrodissection treatments. The study is conducted by VCOM in collaboration with Virginia Tech, funded by the DoD and AOA, with compensation provided.
Free Student Heart Screening
Saturday, February 28 at Virginia Tech
RHeart at Virginia Tech is offering a free heart screening event for middle school, high school, and college students to help detect undiagnosed heart conditions that can predispose individuals to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)—a leading cause of death in young athletes. These heart conditions often go undetected in routine physicals.
Students will complete a brief health history, get their vital signs checked, receive a free EKG, and meet 1-on-1 with an on-site volunteer cardiologist. The screening is non-invasive and typically takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
Students and their families will also have the chance to learn hands-only CPR and how to use an AED through our partnership with Compress and Shock Foundation who will have volunteers on site.
