Meet Dr. Matthew Chung
“I approach each patient differently, as each individual situation is unique. I try my best to get to know the patients and employ a treatment plan that ensures the best chance of success.” – Dr. Chung
Originally from New York, Dr. Chung received his undergraduate degree from The State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo. He went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was a Pre-Clinical Fellow in Gross Anatomy. Dr. Chung completed his residency in Family Medicine at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, West Virginia and his Sports Medicine fellowship with VCOM at Virginia Tech. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy with a Certificate of Added Certifications in Sports Medicine. Within the field, Dr. Chung is particularly interested in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, diagnostic and interventional ultrasounds and regenerative procedures.
Dr. Matthew Chung was drawn to Sports Medicine because of the role that sports played in his life. Unfortunately, he lives with chronic pain as a result of untreated injuries. Now, Dr. Chung is passionate about helping prevent others from developing the same condition. He especially values the opportunity to work with student athletes and help them recover so that they can play the sport they love again.
Outside of the office, Dr. Chung enjoys spending time with his wife, his two kids and their dog. You can find him hiking, biking and traveling in his spare time. He loves Blacksburg for its proximity to the mountains and because the area experiences all four seasons.
