Meet Dr. Colleen Bannigan

“As an athlete that had multiple injuries growing up, I saw how important it was to have a trusted sports medicine physician who understood the importance of returning to your sport as quickly and safely as possible.” – Dr. Bannigan

Originally from Herndon, Virginia, Dr. Bannigan completed her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech before attending VCOM-Virginia Campus, where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate Health, where she was Chief Resident and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship also at VCOM-Virginia Campus. She was the VCOM Student Doctor of the Year at her clinical site in Danville.

Her specialties include acute concussion management, osteopathic manipulative treatment and procedures such as corticosteroid injections, PRP, hydrodissection and prolotherapy.

As an athlete herself, Dr. Bannigan enjoys working with athletes and active individuals and keeping them moving during and after injuries. She enjoys the hands-on component of sports medicine from injections to osteopathic manipulative treatment.

Dr. Bannigan is a Team Physician at Radford University. She is excited to provide sports medicine excellent care to the New River Valley community.

OUTSIDE THE OFFICE

  • Dr. Bannigan enjoys playing sports, such as golf and pickleball
  • You can find her cheering for New England professional sports teams and Virginia Tech and Radford athletics
  • She spends time hanging out with family and friends
