Meet Dr. Albert Kozar
“I am committed to the successful treatment of all painful musculoskeletal conditions through the use of a wide range of non-operative modalities with an osteopathic philosophy in a conservative, cutting-edge manner.” – Dr. Kozar
Dr. Kozar grew up in Massillon, Ohio and was a starting member of the 1988 State Champion Canton Central Catholic football team. In 1993, he graduated from The University of Notre Dame with a BS in Biochemistry. He pursued his dream of becoming a physician by attending The Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUCOM). He earned his DO degree in 1998. Dr. Kozar chose Osteopathic Medicine because his personal philosophy mirrors the Osteopathic Foundation of the integration of body unity and functional evaluation & treatment.
Over the last several years, Dr. Kozar has been a sought after national lecturer on Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), Functional Rehabilitation, and Diagnostic & Guided Interventions with Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. Dr. Kozar has more than 25 years of experience in sports medicine. During his residency training he was fortunate to spend time with team physicians for The Cleveland Indians and Akron University Zips. During his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Sports Care/The Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, he gained sports medicine experience at all levels of sports covering The Toledo University Rockets, Owens Community College, Toledo Storm Hockey, Toledo Mudhens Baseball, and US Track & Field and Judo championships.
Dr. Kozar then spent 13 years in private practice at Valley Sports Physicians, in Avon, CT. In CT he served as Team Physician for the Bloomfield Warhawk HS Football and The University of Hartford, covering Div I sports and staffing weekly training room evaluations for all athletes. Throughout those years he saw various US Figure Skating athletes and dancers in his office. He also had experience covering the WWE on multiple occasions as well as various local running events.
Dr. Kozar began studying musculoskeletal ultrasound in 2006 and was a very early adopter of its usage in clinical practice. Dr. Kozar is now a sought after national lecturer and course presenter. He has lectured, led many hands-on workshops and co-authored diagnostic ultrasound training DVD entitled “Fundamentals of Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound: An Anatomical Approach to the Upper & Lower Extremity, Pelvis, Abdomen & Groin.”
In September 2015, Dr. Kozar decided to change his career path and join The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) to develop and become the director of a new Osteopathic Neuromuscular Medicine Residency to train residents and perform research in his areas of interest. His private practice continues to be a non-surgical, 100% musculoskeletal practice specializing in the evaluation and treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions through the use of a wide range of non-operative modalities. He now serves as a consultant for Virginia Tech athletes.
